Slovenian World Congress was established on the day of Slovenia's independence, i.e. 25. June 1991. Its origins, however, go few years back into September 1989 when the Draga Study Days were organized in Opčine near Trieste. The first inauguration event took place in Ljubljana on 26.6. 1991: the idea was implemented after few years of preparation. The main aim of establishing the Slovenian World Congress is the global integration of Slovenes around the world. The organizational structure of the Congress includes a network of Conferences from all over the world: American Slovenian Congress in the USA, Canadian Slovenian Congress, German Slovenian Congress, SSK Congress in Italy, Austria, Australia and Argentina, the Conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain and Carinthia Conference.

Recently, the main activity of Slovenian World Congress is focused on organizing events of Slovene professional people from all over the world SSK – doctors, business people, scientists, architects, musicians. These events are organized in Slovenia on the annual basis. A special event takes place throughout the year, the so called Evenings behind the Congress (Večeri izza Kongresa) where various current topics related to Slovenes around the world are discussed. After the entry of Slovenia into EU, public consultation sessions entitled “When there are no borders” are organized every year. Once a year, the camp Tabor for Slovene children (for children aged 12 to 17) takes place, other age groups of the youth, however, may participate at the event Draga of the youth. Throughout the year, art exhibitions book presentation and other cultural events produced by Slovene countrymen from all over the world are also organized.
