Conservation of mother tongue and culture is one of the fundamental human rights. Approximately 500,000 Slovenians and their descendants live abroad. Care for Slovenians abroad is one of the priorities of Slovenia; teaching additional lessons of Slovenian language has been organised in Europe as well as in the European schools, and lessons of Slovenian and other subjects has been organised in the Slovenian language in transoceanic countries – Saturday “school”. The National Education Institute manages Stičišče, where information on learning Slovenian for Slovenians abroad is presented in a clear manner (where abroad are the additional lessons of Slovenian organised, who are the teachers, which learning material to use, etc.).


Online courses for learning Slovenian

They present an opportunity for all those for whom Slovenian is not their first language to learn it in a simple, widely accessible and pleasant manner, or try to improve their knowledge thereof.

•     Interactive course of Slovenian language – distance learning of Slovenian developed by the Centre for Slovene as a Second/Foreign Language at the Faculty of Arts is available here.

Ljubljana: The Centre for Slovenian as a Second/Foreign Language at the Faculty of Arts of University of Ljubljana offers a number of language courses, which vary in duration, intensity and content (whole year, winter or summer school of Slovenian language, youth summer school, individual courses, etc.).
