The Slovenian Ethnographic Museum

The Slovenian Ethnographic Museum is the central museum of ethnology, founded in 1923, with Slovenian and equally important non-European collections in the field of material, social and spiritual culture, which the museum preserves, documents, researches and presents. It reports on traditional culture in Slovenia and the culture of some other of the world's peoples; as well as about Slovene people living abroad.

  • Collections: the culture of economic activities and transport, crafts and trades, dwelling and clothing culture, social and spiritual culture and art sources
  • Central ethnological archive and photoarchive, video library, ethnographic film, phonotheque and a museum library open to public
  • Department for collecting and researching the cultural heritage

For Slovenians living abroad, holding some very important collections already, such as of Slovenian handicraft in Australia and of  the “Alexandrian women”  and their descendants.
